Beginning the week 4/7/2020 I will be working from home.  My virtual office hours are from 10 - 11 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays.  I am always available via email and check that daily.  My email address is murrayc@gorepublicschools.org.  If needed, we can set up a ZOOM meeting to discuss issues face to face.  Just e-mail and we will set that up.

Seniors, I am still here for you!  Make sure you are working on those scholarships.  We still have the Evertson Scholarship available that you were working on.  E-mail those to me by 4/15/2020.

2020 Oklahoma Scholarship Competition

Registration for the 2020 Oklahoma Scholarship Competition is now open.

  • The deadline for registration is Friday, March 13th at 5:00 PM.
  • The Oklahoma Scholarship Competition ONLINE EXAM date is Saturday, March 28th.
  • Awards will be distributed at the Scholarship Awards Assembly on Thursday, April 30th, at 1:30 P.M.at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Gaylord-Pickens Museum.

Each year, the Oklahoma Hall of Fame makes available cash scholarships and tuition grants to high school students who have studied Oklahoma’s history and heritage. Through the Oklahoma Scholarship Competition, students in grades 9 through 12 test their knowledge on Oklahoma history, geography, and its people.

Students compete for scholarships in the county in which they attend school. Those with high scores in each county receive a minimum of a $1,000 cash scholarship or tuition grant to an Oklahoma college or university. Each of Oklahoma’s 77 counties has at least eight scholarships available. Scholarships are made possible through generous donations by individuals, corporations, and Oklahoma colleges and universities.

The 2020 Oklahoma Scholarship Competition will be administered online, allowing more students access to the opportunity.

All students must be pre-registered to participate and will be provided a password unique to them to access the online testing site on March 28. There will be a one-hour time limit on the examination and guidelines for participating students will be provided with confirmations sent in March.

The Cherokee Nation Foundation and The Princeton Review have partnered together to offer a free, 6-week ACT prep class to high school juniors and seniors who are citizens of Cherokee Nation. (Lower grades are welcome if space is available AND if they have taken Algebra 1 and are enrolled in Geometry.)

This class is free of charge to you but normally costs over $600. You will be provided with materials that you will need to bring to each class, as well as receive homework assignments you will need to complete between classes. You are required to register for the upcoming National ACT and agree to be on time and stay for the duration of each class meeting.

If a student is not a citizen of a federally recognized tribe, the cost of the class is $100.

The Cherokee Nation Foundation will:

  • • Provide a certified Princeton Review Instructor
  • • ACT Manual

(No materials may be sold or used in a paid workshop without permission.)

See Mrs. McFarland for an application.
